Young Writers' Competition Application
SPONSOR: FRIENDS OF THE WALDPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY
"How Will You Find Your Voice"
Categories:
- Beginner to intermediate (no high school submissions in this category) Entrant lives in Lincoln County, OR
- Advanced (middle through high school). Entrant must live in Lincoln County, OR
Cash prizes provided by the Friends of the Waldport Public Library for (1) Grand Prize, $200; (2) First Prizes,$100; (2) Second Prizes, $75;(1) Honorable Mention, $50. Participation gifts.
Entries must be original pieces and typewritten.
Entries must be between 800 and 1500 words.
Entries are due on April 3, 2023, before 5 p.m.
Entries will be judged objectively based on:
1) Prompt, 2) Word Count, 3) Audience, 4) Ideas & Content, 5) Organization, 6) Voice, 7) Word Choice, 8) Sentence Fluency, 9) Conventions.
A signed application must accompany essays. Help with editing is encouraged. Applications may be picked up at the Waldport Public Library, 460 NW Hemlock (Hwy 34), Waldport, OR, or from our website at waldportlibrary.org. Submissions can be in person or through email at waldportlibrary@waldportlibrary.org.
Winners are announced on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
