Circe, identified chiefly as the witch-goddess who turned Odysseus’s companions into swine and then suffered the consequences, becomes a complex, fully-alive woman in what Miller calls her “mythologically realistic literary adaptation”.  Shunning the view of Circe as victim, Miller describes her Circe as “The story of a woman finding her power and, as part of that, finding her voice.”

Madeline Miller is an award-winning, best-selling author who became intrigued with Greek and Roman mythology as a child.  She read “The Odyssey” for the first time when she was thirteen-years-old, and when offered the opportunity in high school to learn Homeric Greek, she seized the chance.  She has taught and tutored Latin, Greek and Shakespeare to high school students for more than fifteen years.  She is also the author of the best-selling “Song of Achilles”.

The 2021 Lincoln County Reads program will be a virtual program which will be presented through multiple venues on Sunday, April 25, from 3-4pm.  The program will be moderated and will include a presentation by the author and a Q&A period following her remarks.  Registration will be required to attend the program and will open in April.
